My inspiration

You like to stand out from the crowd, but not because you want attention...you just don’t want to “look like everyone else”. You want your own style in your own way. 

I can totally relate… Hi, I’m Maria Thompson, designer and owner of Maree London Jewellery. I understand you don’t want to look “just like everyone else” and that’s why I started my business. I couldn’t find the jewellery that I wanted to wear, it was either old traditional designs, badly made or everybody else was wearing it or it just wasn’t my style. I wanted jewellery that was understated but eyecatching, jewellery that made me feel nice, pieces of jewellery I could wear all the time and for years because they weren’t on trend they were classic designs I could love forever.

My Journey

Art & Design has always been a big part of my life and a big passion of mine from a very young age. You would always find me drawing or painting. I loved making cards for my nan on her birthday with a drawing of anything from fruit to flowers to copying a Van Gogh painting. At school, I loved winning the end of year art prizes from my art teacher it was great to be recognised for something I loved doing so much. Even though art had been a big part of my life, my passion for jewellery began while studying sculpture at college where I discovered metalwork. I fell in love with metal's beauty, texture, shape and excitement, and how something so raw could become so pretty. I could make mini sculpture pieces into jewellery! Finding metalwork and jewellery was a big breakthrough for me as at the time I didn’t wear any jewellery, I had a couple of pieces my mum bought me for my 18th birthday, but I never wore them because they just weren’t my style. I was so excited to find my path within the art world. I graduated in 2001 with a BA degree in Jewellery and Metalsmithing from De Montfort University Leicester.

My second passion is people, I love making people happy or laugh. I just love the way it makes me feel. I am so delighted that every day through my collections and commissioned pieces I contribute to so many happy, magical moments and memories. I believe jewellery has a special place in our hearts & well-being.

I see myself as an artist as well as a jeweller and I believe this is one of my strengths and why my jewellery has a unique look and feel to every piece. I create beautiful pieces of jewellery you can wear every day, and stand out in a crowd for all the right reasons. I design jewellery, to celebrate women helping them feel happy and confident through their jewellery. Designing beautiful timeless pieces of jewellery that encapture lifetime luxury. Every stone is sustainably sourced and handpicked by me, Maria.

All Jewellery is designed in my London based studio in the heart of Royal Greenwich.
